How To Save The Planet With Your Coffee

Being eco-friendly is becoming increasingly more important day by day and you’ve got to make sure you are doing things like recycling and saving as much energy and power you can. You don’t need to completely change your lifestyle but doing little bits will help save the planet one step at a time. You’re probably wondering how this has anything to do with coffee, but there are many things you can do to be eco-friendly with your daily cup of coffee.

Some examples of ways your business can be green without having to tell your staff that they need to cut out their coffee are as follows…

Switch up one-use, throwaway coffee cups and use a reusable cup instead. These come in mug form, plastic cup form or even a flask! Another option could be using recyclable cups instead and make sure your staff are recycling them correctly – check out our Kraft Compostable and Biodegradable Double Walled Cups here (available in boxes of 500 in 9oz or 12oz). According to this article by RoadRunner, one person uses 500 disposable coffee cups per year! Can you imagine how much waste just one office produces per day by using the throwaway cups every time they make a coffee? Reusable or recyclable cups are the answer to reducing waste and therefore helping save the planet.

If your staff arrive to work with a coffee they bought on the way, an eco-friendly idea is to encourage them to take their own reusable cups to their local coffee shop. This way they will be helping the coffee shop reduce waste too. The takeaway cups at coffee shops often have a plastic lid and straw – a complete NO if you’re being environmentally friendly. Using a reusable cup means they will decrease their waste; not forgetting to mention how handy a reusable cup is on a day-to-day basis too!

Another way to be eco-friendly with your coffee may be slightly controversial – switching your milk to almond, soy or coconut milk. There are some factors to think about when it comes to agriculture and how your dairy is produced; animal welfare, pollution and human rights, which you can read about here. With this, changing or reducing your dairy intake could be another step in helping the planet – dairy alternatives have become more popular over the past few years as veganism has grown and many do prefer it to dairy itself.

At Coffee Seller, we have a large range of fresh milk coffee machines and some even provide the option for two types of milk too. This makes it super easy if half of your staff want to stick with dairy and the other half want the alternative!
